'Anchorman' Director Adam McKay Partners with Brady Campaign to Push Gun Control

'Anchorman' Director Adam McKay Partners with Brady Campaign to Push Gun Control

Anchorman and Talladega Nights director Adam McKay is partnering with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence to shame Congress into supporting more gun control

He is doing so via a "parody video" which mocks pro-Second Amendment Congressional members, referring to them as gun lobby "lap dogs."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a website--lapdogscorecard.org--will also be part of the push. It will "list specific members of Congress that the Brady Campaign says took money from the gun lobby in exchange for blocking legislation to expand background checks." The four biggest targets for McKay and the Brady Campaign are House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).

In the video, members of Congress who stood for the Second Amendment are depicted as "lap dogs" that will sit, roll over, lie down, etc, in exchange for a treat. The "treat," in this instance, is money from the "gun lobby." The video suggests that Congressmen who fought against expanded background checks were actually fighting against measures to keep guns out of the hands of "rapists and other criminals."

The video does not mention that we currently have a background check system and that Nidal Hasan (2009 Fort Hood gunman), Jared Laughner (2011 Tuscon gunman), James Holmes (2012 Aurora Theater gunman), Aaron Alexis (Sept. 2013 DC Navy Yard gunman), Paul Ciancia (Nov. 2013 LAX gunman), Darion Marcus Aguilar (Jan. 2014 Maryland Mall gunman), Ivan Lopez (2014 Fort Hood gunman), Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara gunman), and Jerad and Amanda Miller (Las Vegas gunman and woman) only acquired their guns after going through background checks.
